Inappropriate App Ads

Did you know that there are children’s apps that show content inappropriate for their age? I was disturbed to see an ad featuring a pregnancy test but more disturbed when the next ad showed cartoon characters about to act in a very intimate nature. The iPad was put facedown before we saw what happened next.

In a study done in 2018, researches found that seventeen children’s apps asked for permission to access the phone, eleven for microphone permissions, nine for camera use, and six for location.

Here is what you can do.
1. Report the App
For Apple users: http://reportaproblem.apple.com
For Android users: https://support.google.com/googleplay/contact/rap_family
2. Make sure your devices are up to date
3. Turn on safe search
4. Avoid free apps with few downloads or that have repetitive positive comments
5. Play the app in airplane mode
6. Block ads altogether
I’ve never used this, however it looks helpful enough to be mentioned
